The TeraDiag project explores the potential use of terahertz radiation in diagnostic testing of components critical to national defence and security.
These include solid rocket propellants, aramid fiber-based composites (used in bulletproof vests, helmets, and bomb suits), and glass- and carbon-fiber-reinforced composites (used in aircraft structures).
The research will involve analyzing the interaction of terahertz radiation with these materials and developing methodologies for detecting defects caused by technological imperfections and long-term operational wear. The project will result in the creation of novel, dedicated non-destructive testing (NDT) platforms tailored to these applications.
Advanced signal processing and artificial intelligence algorithms—based on neural networks—will enable automatic diagnostics of critical components, enhance inspection processes, and ultimately improve the safety and reliability of their operational use.
