(Ret. Lt. Col.) Ph.D., D.Sc. Eng. Mirosław Kowalski, prof. ITWL

BIO

Specializations: airplanes and helicopters, mechanics, aircraft engines, construction and operation of machines.

Graduated from the Military University of Technology (WAT) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Director obtained the degree of doctor of technical sciences in 1996 at the Faculty of Armaments and Aviation of the Military University of Technology, while in 2013 he received the postdoctoral degree in technical sciences in the field of "Construction and operation of machines" at the Faculty of Work Machines and Transport at the Poznan University of Technology.

In addition, in 2007 Director Mirosław Kowalski completed postgraduate studies in "Property Management" at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.

In the years 1987-1995 Director went through career levels at the 58th Air School Regiment in Dęblin, from the commander of the aircraft operation key to the engineer of the technical squadron. After being transferred to the Air Force Academy in Dęblin (currently Polish Air Force University), until 1998 he was the senior engineer of the department, while supervising the work of the staff of the Engineering Service of six training regiments.

In January 1998, he was transferred to the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he held the following positions - Assistant Professor, Workshop Manager, Department Deputy Manager, Deputy Director of the Institute and associate professor.

Acting Director of the Air Force Institute of Technology from August 2018.
As of September 28th, 2018, by the decision of the Polish Minister of National Defense Miroslaw Kowalski was appointed to the position of Director of the Institute.

The achievements of Director Mirosław KOWALSKI includes over 140 scientific publications and reports as well as over 100 research studies. The results of his scientific and research work have been implemented into production and operation both in industry and in the Polish Armed Forces. Director Kowalski is the author of numerous patents, expertises, reports and studies in the field of his specialties.

Director is a member of national and foreign councils and scientific societies. He was awarded many times for his work for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.

Director Mirosław Kowalski is married. With his wife Danuta, they have two sons: Damian and Mariusz.

Hobby: mountain tourism, athletics and classical music.

Deputy Director for Science

(Ret. Lt. Col.) professor Andrzej Żyluk, Ph.D., D.Sc. Eng.

BIO

Specializations: aerial weapon, aircraft weapon systems,

He graduated from the Military Technical Academy at the Faculty of Electromechanics, specializing in the Exploitation of Airborne Equipment.

In the years 1985-1992 he served in the military service in the 6th Fighter and Bomber Regiment in Piła in the positions of the Key Commander of navigation and sight systems in the years 1985-1989 and the Armament Engineer in the years 1989-1992.

In 1992, he started working at the Air Force Institute of Technology (ITWL), where he held the following positions: Senior Laboratory Engineer, Head of the Laboratory, Head of the Scientific Department, and in 2007 he bacame the Deputy Director of the Institute for Science and Research (currently Deputy Director for Science).

During his work at ITWL, Professor Andrzej Żyluk was primarily involved in the study of aviation combat assets (LŚB) and air weapon systems in the subsequent stages of their "technical life" from development, through production and operation, to utilization.

In 2002 he obtained the title of doctor of technical sciences for the work "Experimental verification of the mathematical model of flight bomb dynamics".

He participated in the development and implementation of the elements of the training system of aerial air imitators for the Air Force and the Air Defense Forces and training bombs. He was a contractor of research works on imitators based on decommissioned guided and unguided missiles.

On April 14, 2010, he received a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences in the scientific discipline - construction and exploitation of machines - based on scientific achievements and monographs "Simulation studies of external ballistics of aerial weapon" - at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aviation at Rzeszów University of Technology.

In 2010 he was appointed an associate professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and since 2011 is also a member of its Scientific Council.

In 2015 Andrzej Żyluk received a professorial nomination from the President of the Republic of Poland.

The results of his numerous research and scientific studies were implemented for production and for use both into the Polish and foreign Armed Forces and industry. Director Żyluk was awarded many times for his scientific and professional work.

Deputy Director for Organisational and Technical Issues

(Ret. Lt. Col.) Jarosław Sarnecki Ph.D Eng.

BIO

Specialties: mechanics and machine construction, diagnostics, tribology, aviation fuels
He was born on September 3, 1975 in Warsaw. In 1999, he graduated from the Military University of Technology (WAT) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with the specialization "Devices and applications of propellant and lubricants."

Since 1999 related with ITWL where during ten years he went through career levels in the following Divisions:

  • Flight technique diagnostics (1999-2002)
  • Aircraft engines (2002-2007)
  • Propellants and Lubricants (2007-2019)

In 2006 he obtained the title of doctor of technical sciences in the discipline "Construction and operation of machines" for the work titled "Model of the process of consuming elements of the aircraft engine bearing system". During his scientific work, he went from the engineer, through the senior engineer, assistant, to the main research and technical specialist. From 2007, he managed the Division of Petroleum Oils and Lubricants. In 2011, he ended his military service as a lieutenant colonel, continuing his work at ITWL as a Division manager.

In 2018, Ph.D Eng. Jaroslaw Sarnecki was appointed by the Minister of National Defense to the position of the Deputy Director of ITWL for Organizational and Technical Affairs.
Director Jarosław Sarnecki was in charge of numerous research projects and projects financed by the Polish industry, the National Center for Research and Development and the National Science Center. He is the author of numerous publications in the field of aviation fuels and aviation technique diagnostics. In 2011, he participated in the first edition of the "Top 500 Innovators. Science, Management, Commercialization " financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Under the program, he completed a two-month internship at Stanford University in the USA. He is a member of NATO and CEN working groups, he also participated in the works of the National Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission.

Deputy Director for Development and Implementation

(Ret. Lt. Col.) Jarosław SULKOWSKI Ph.D Eng.

BIO

Specializations: Electronics, Telecommunication, Radio-Navigation, System Integration and support for LINK, GPS CSAR, Self-protection systems and Electronic Warfare.

Graduated the Military University of Technology in Warsaw (WAT) at the faculty of Electronics, obtaining the academic title of Doctor of Philosophy for doctoral trial - “The method of filtering signals from the NAVSTAR GPS system for determining the spatial orientation of objects”.

2007- appointed as the Head of the C4ISR System Integration Division in the Air Force Institute of Technology where he also became an ITWL Communications and Informatics (COMSEC) Security Officer responsible for the maintenance of cryptographic security.

2013- still being Head of the C4ISR Division, appointed to the position of Deputy Director of AFIT for Development and Implementation.

2013- appointed as the Director of the Scientific Centre of Aviation created by AFIT and the Polish Air Force University in Deblin.

Author of numerous publications in the field of electronics. Member of Scientific Societies acting with the: NATO, Polish Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland and Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission.
