The overarching goal of the project “Barrier-Free Transfers” is to counteract social exclusion of individuals with special needs by enhancing travel opportunities, improving safety and comfort, and increasing accessibility to transportation infrastructure within integrated transport hubs.
The research focuses on developing a set of tools to support the functioning of an Accessibility Management System (AMS) for facilities, devices, and means of transport that are part of Integrated Transport Hubs (ITHs), specifically tailored to the needs of Persons with Special Needs (PwSN). The project includes the development of a conceptual framework and selected tools to support accessibility management at ITHs.
The anticipated end-users of the system include both travellers with permanent or temporary special needs, as well as hub administrators and local governments. A key outcome of the project will be a mobile application enabling passengers to plan and execute optimized travel routes with ease and independence.
