AFIT success at MSPO2022

Like is previous editions, the XXX International Defence Industry Exhibition, turned out to be highly successful for the Air Force Institute of Technology. The Polish technology, developed together with partners, was appreciated by the Committee in Kielce.

Defender

During the gala finishing the 4-day MSPO Fair, the Deputy Director of ITWL for Research - Prof. PhD. Dsc. B. Eng. Andrzej Żyluk was awarded the Kielce Defender statuette from the Deputy Director of the Defence Policy Department of the Ministry of National Defence - Mateusz Sarosiek and the President of the Management Board of Targi Kielce S.A. - Andrzej Mochoń, which was awarded by the Competition Committee to a consortium composed of: ITWL (leader), WITU, Łukasiewicz Research Network - Ilot and MSP InnTech Sp. z o.o. for the "Maneuvering Jet Aircraft with the Jet-2 LM Tactical Warhead".

JET-2 LM (LM - Loitering Munition) is a jet unmanned platform equipped with
electro-optical guidance warhead and a tactical warhead in one of the three suggested versions:

  • High-explosive/blast-fragmentation warhead - for damaging manpower and light field fortifications;
  • Cumulative warhead – for damaging tanks and other Armoured Fighting Vehicles;
  • Thermobaric warhead - for damaging manpower, shelters and other field fortifications.

The task of the JET-2 LM is to precisely eliminate the target within a range of up to 70 km. Identification, marking and targeting is done by a specially developed algorithm.

Thanks to jet engines and an innovative rocket booster, launching of the JET 2-LM takes place from a dedicated platform that can be situated on any means of transport. Its maximum speed (150 m/s) allows you to reach a distant target, which is
70 km away in approximately 8 minutes. The structure of the fiberglass airframe, the small radar cross-section (RCS), as well as the unique technical parameters, including the maximum speed and the possibility to perform missions both at high altitudes and
and in contour flight (below 50 m), makes the JET-2 LM difficult to detect by radar stations and virtually impossible to eliminate by enemy’s anti-aircraft warfare.

State Security Leader

During the MSPO, gala event was held at which awards were presented in the “State Security Leader 2022” under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland.

ITWL was awarded with the Grand Prix and Distinction in the "Innovative Product" category:

  • Grand Prix for "Morski Ubiór Pilota - MUP Rescue Pack, MUP-RP survival kit", which is the result of close cooperation with Konfexim-2 Sp. z o.o.
  • Distinction for the "Unmanned automatic measuring platform for testing the load-bearing capacity of natural airport pavements in a continuous manner - BIZON" carried out with Dobrowolski
    z o.o.

The awards were collected by the Director of ITWL, PhD. Dsc. B. Eng. Mirosław Kowalski, Prof. ITWL assisted by the Head of the ITWL Avionics Department, PhD. Dsc. B. Eng. Sławomir Michalak and the Head of the Airport Department, Lt. Col. PhD. Dsc. B. Eng. Mariusz Wesołowski.

Polish technology

This year, the Institute's exhibition stand featured twelve items, except for the Jet-2 LM; these were:

  • Mobile Terrain Recognition System - designed for observation, search and rescue operations, border and critical infrastructure protection. The system can operate in difficult terrain, as well as at different times of the day and under various weather conditions, thanks to the Terrain Intervention Command Vehicle. The unmanned aerial vehicles of the "Atrax" family enable uninterrupted observation at a range of up to 4.5 kilometers. It should be noted that the set can be configured with regard to heads and equipment, which allows the system to be adapted to the user’s needs. The system was created as a result of a contract concluded with the National Center for Research and Development.
  • LBĆ-10K Practice Air Bomb - guided by a reflected laser beam replaces full-size combat bombs in training aviators in bombing.
  • AC Passive Protection System - flares and flare dispensers meeting the requirements of STANAG-4687, used for passive defence of manned air platforms.
  • PIORUN man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) - a modular device built based on the universal Support Beam and two rocket missiles. It is intended for self-defence of helicopter and is aimed to destroy the enemy’s aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles in the entire operating range of the carrier's flight speed and altitude.
  • WW-15 Multi-Tube Missile Launcher - WW-15 and WW-15/N launchers are dedicated for unguided 70 mm caliber firing from combat helicopter platforms.
  • MOSKIT missile - anti-tank guided missile (manufactured by WITU)
  • IT Support Systems for the Polish Armed Forces – the latest support systems, incl. TURAWA-MATS, SAMANTA, e-NOPS
  • Air Target Imitators Set - intended for field training of anti-aircraft defence subunits in combating air-to-air, surface-to-air, water-to-air missiles and barrel weapons.
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicle - AtraxC - designed for observation and combat missions (equipped with 12 different types of grenades, depending on the end user’s needs).
  • MOP Rescue Pack - a survival kit for crew members of military aircraft.
  • „LANCET” - modular guided weapon system for helicopters - “LANCET” creates an integrated, digital system for detecting and combating targets.

Thank you for visiting our stand. Come next year!
