The Polish Space Agency (POLSA) has opened a new Observation Center in Bezmiechowa, Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
This facility is dedicated to the observation of cosmic phenomena and monitoring near-Earth space, marking a significant step in the development of Poland's space sector. The opening ceremony was attended by ITWL Director, Dr. hab. Mirosław Kowalski, and co-creator of the system, Dr. Jerzy Łukasiewicz.
Center's Scope of Operations The Observation Center in Bezmiechowa is equipped with advanced technical infrastructure, allowing research in:
- monitoring satellite movements and space debris,
- analyzing data from space missions,
- studying the impact of space conditions on satellite technologies.
The center aims to support both research and operational missions, on national and international levels.
ITWL's Role and Innovative Technologies The Air Force Institute of Technology (ITWL) plays a crucial role in this project, providing cutting-edge technologies. One key system is the Automated Optical Space Object Observation and Tracking System (ASOPEK/SSA_PL), developed with the Military University of Technology and Creotech Instruments SA. This system detects space debris and unregistered satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO).
This project enables simultaneous observation of multiple unregistered objects on LEO/HLEO orbits from several locations, improving the precision of space monitoring. The Optical Fence system, developed by Cillium Engineering Sp. z o.o., further enhances real-time satellite tracking capabilities.
Collaboration and Space Technology Development The Bezmiechowa Center expands Poland’s observational capabilities and fosters collaboration with scientific and industrial institutions, both domestic and international. ITWL, alongside POLSA and partners like Creotech Instruments SA and Cillium Engineering, actively develops systems supporting satellite observation and space safety.
Location and Future Prospects The location in Bezmiechowa was chosen for its low light pollution and favorable weather conditions, making it ideal for long-term space observation. With continued contributions from institutions like ITWL and international partnerships, the center aims to become a key European space research hub.
ITWL will continue developing innovative technologies and collaborating with POLSA to strengthen Poland's position in the global space sector.
